Cantore Stories: Unique Weather and Climate Change

We're gearing up for the launch of a new show here on The Weather Channel. November 10 is the premiere of Cantore Stories: On Top of the World. It takes you inside the lives of Barrow, Alaska residents—a city that experiences 24-hours of darkness for more than two months a year!

As bad as the winter can be for this state, the summer can be so pleasing for many. After all, who can complain about having the sun up for 17 to 24 hours! In Fairbanks, which is in central Alaska, children can be seen playing at 3:00 AM!! The sun is up at the end of June for 21 hours there.

No state is experiencing the effects of climate change more than Alaska. Climate change occurs unevenly, and recent warming trends have been the greatest in the far north. In Alaska's interior region, even slight warming can cause drastic ecological changes as frozen soils thaw. In the far north, species and ways of life are threatened as sea ice melts.

Join us as we hear first-hand how a warming globe is influencing the lives of the people of Alaska. Cantore Stories: On Top of the World, premieres November 10 at 10pm Eastern here on The Weather Channel.
And there's much more to know about this great state. Submit your questions and comments to this blog, and we may use them on-air. And log onto weather.com/tv to watch clips from my special report, again premiering November 10.
